Quantum Cognition How the Mind Handles Uncertainty

Quantum mechanics is one of the most powerful ideas ever developed by humans—not just in physics, but as a way of thinking about uncertainty itself. When physicists realised that classical probability simply could not describe the microscopic world, they invented an entirely new framework: quantum theory. What’s remarkable is that this framework turns out to be useful far beyond physics—especially wherever uncertainty, ambiguity, and context matter.

Program Highlights

What You'll Learn

A New Science of Uncertainty

Discover how quantum theory became a powerful framework for reasoning about ambiguity and context, far beyond physics. You'll gain a fundamentally new lens for understanding how decisions are really made when outcomes aren't certain.

Why the Mind Breaks the Rules

Understand why human behaviour so often violates classical probability, and why those "irrational" paradoxes are actually predictable. You'll see the cognitive patterns behind real decisions — the same ones that shaped Nobel Prize-winning research.

The Quantum Model of Thought

Learn how and why quantum theory captures the way people actually think, judge, and choose. You'll move from intuition to a working understanding of the models reshaping modern cognitive science.

Decision-Making Under Ambiguity

Explore how context, order, and framing change the choices people make — effects classical models can't explain. You'll come away better equipped to understand judgment in the messy, real conditions leaders and professionals face.

From Theory to Real-World Impact

See how quantum cognition applies to organisational psychology, legal decision-making, and beyond. You'll connect abstract models to concrete settings where understanding human judgment carries real weight.

A Frontier Worth Knowing

Engage with one of the most exciting interdisciplinary frontiers in psychology today, alongside its open challenges and future directions. You'll leave with a rare, forward-looking perspective on where the science of the mind is heading.

Quantum Cognition

Quantum Theory & Cognition

This Course Explores Why and How Quantum Theory Can Model Human Thought.

And that’s exactly where the human mind comes in. In cognitive psychology, human behaviour frequently violates the rules of classical probability. These “paradoxes” sit at the heart of the famous heuristics and biases tradition—one of the most influential research programmes in psychology and the foundation of multiple Nobel Prizes! As it turns out, quantum theory often captures these paradoxes surprisingly well!

This course explores why and how quantum theory can model human thought.

What This Program Is

An immersive professional development program that reframes how you understand human judgment — moving beyond the classical models that dominate psychology, economics, and decision science. This isn't a physics course or an abstract theory seminar — it's a deep exploration of how quantum theory explains the way minds actually think when faced with:

  • Uncertainty (why people don't reason like textbook probability predicts)
  • Ambiguity (how meaning and context reshape the choices we make)
  • Order and framing (why the sequence of questions changes the answers)
  • Paradox (the "irrational" behaviours that classical models can't explain)

Not Abstract. Application-Driven.

  • Modelling real decisions in organisational and legal settings
  • Understanding bias through a framework that predicts it
  • Applying quantum cognitive models to judgment under uncertainty
  • Connecting cutting-edge theory to practical decision-making
  • Engaging with the open frontiers shaping the field's future

The course is designed for anyone curious about how minds actually think under uncertainty

Requirements

Who is this course designed for?

Participants with some familiarity in vector algebra should find the geometric picture of quantum cognitive models easy to follow. Students with knowledge of probabilities will more easily understand why some behaviours are considered paradoxes. To understand the nuts and bolts of quantum cognitive model, some linear algebra is necessary; however, these parts are self-contained and students who have difficulty will not be inhibited in other parts.
